چکیده

Keratins from the differentiating cortical cells of the guinea-pig hair follicle have been studied by immunological and immunofluorescent procedures. Antisera were prepared to the unfractionated keratin proteins from the follicle and the specificity of these antisera examined by lmmunodifTusion and lmmunoelectrophoresis. The major follicle antigens were the 'lowsulphur' keratins, and the antibodies were specific for these and related a-keratins. Use of the precipitin reaction as a quantitative immunoassay for follicle keratins has been demonstrated. The fluorescent antibody technique has been applied to the hair follicle and the follicle antigens have been localized by this procedure in the cytoplasm of the developing cortical cells. By this technique keratin could not be detected in the prohferative cells of the bulb region of the follicle supporting the view that keratin synthesis begins only when the cells enter the upper bulb region of the follicle.

The potential of nestin-expressing hair follicle stem cells in regenerative medicine.

The hair follicle bulge area is an abundant, easily accessible source of actively growing pluripotent adult stem cells. Nestin, a protein marker for neural stem cells, is also expressed in follicle stem cells and their immediate, differentiated progeny. Green fluorescent protein (GFP), whose expression is driven by the nestin regulatory element in transgenic mice, serves to mark hair follicle s...

Multipotent nestin-positive, keratin-negative hair-follicle bulge stem cells can form neurons.

We have recently shown that the expression of nestin, the neural stem cell marker protein, is expressed in bulge-area stem cells of the hair follicle. We used transgenic mice with GFP expression driven by the nestin regulatory element [nestin-driven GFP (ND-GFP)]. The ND-GFP stem cells give rise to the outer-root sheath of the hair follicle as well as an ND-GFP interfollicular vascular network....

Hair follicle differentiation and regulation.

Ten years ago, Hardy (1992) wrote a timely review on the major features of hair follicle development and hair growth which she referred to as a secret life. Many of these secrets are now being revealed. The information discussed in this brief review comprises the structure of the hair and hair follicle, the continuing characterisation of the genes for keratin and keratin associated proteins, th...

Background and Objective: Hair follicle stem cells are multipotent, located in the bulge area, and are highly proliferating. Retinoids have an effect on epidermal differentiation and keratinization. Retinoic acid is used to treat some skin diseases such as Melasma, Acne and Ichthyosis. So, the study of all-trans retinoic acid effect on hair follicle stem cells and determination of the effective...
